Jorge Retamoza the music of Astor Piazzolla and Gerry Mulligan

In 2014 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the edition of the record Summit, Jorge Retamoza decides to revive this encounter of the two artists with a series of concerts in tribute to such seminal record, vivid in listeners and musicians from different generations.
Together with guitarist Pablo Martinez, they have done a work of reconstruction of the scores of Summit,  transcribing all the stuff directly from the recording. Then they adapted the arrangements to a sextet format so in this way we can hear all the melodic episodes of the pieces that make up the record.
Retamoza and Martinez have respected the general forms of the songs, the melodies, counterpoints and the sound environment in general. Piazzolla and Mulligan played a few concerts with this music: some dates in Italy, France, Barcelona, Brazil and not much more, in fact, they didn’t play together in Argentina and the music of this record has been rarely used by other artists that play Piazzolla’s music.
The sextet brings to the present a piece that united the world of tango and jazz for the first time in such a clear and beautiful way, 40 years ago.
